The 5 Worst Thing You Can Do Immediately After a Motorcycle Wreck

You have officially gotten into a motorcycle wreck and you aren’t sure what you should do next. Here are the five worst things you can do immediately after this wreck.

1. Try to handle the accident without the police present.

One of the worst things you can do after an accident with another driver is trying to handle the situation without the police present. More than likely, you are both running on adrenaline and might make some choices you’ll regret at a later point. You are also injured, which makes the accident even worse for the both of you.

There is also the issue of filing a claim through your insurance carrier. The insurance representative will ask you for a police report. If you did not call the police, you will not have a report to give them. This will lead to more problems, one of which includes points going against you on your driver’s license. It is always a good idea to call 9-1-1 for help after any and all accidents.

2. Tell people at the scene that you may have caused the accident.

Another thing you should never do after getting into an accident is to tell someone that you caused that accident. This “someone” includes, 9-1-1 dispatchers, police officers, the other driver involved, and any other witnesses to the accident itself.

This could lead to further trouble down the road and could lead to the police notating that in the police report for the accident in question. Do not admit fault for the wreck to anyone.

3. Fail to get medical care for your injuries.

A third thing you should never do is fail to get medical treatment for your injuries sustained in the accident. Since you were on a motorcycle, you are more likely to get an injury than if you were in a car.

These injuries could lead to worse injuries down the road or infections in any of the wounds you sustained from the wreck. To prevent those things from happening, get medical attention as soon as you possibly can.

4. Tell your insurance carrier that you were at fault for the accident.

A fourth thing you should never do after a motorcycle accident is to admit fault for the wreck to the insurance carrier. They will make note of this, even if you did not contribute to the wreck, and make the process even more difficult. The claims process is already frustrating, even with a lawyer, but this admittance could make things even more frustrating for you and your lawyer.

It is a better idea to not say anything about who is at fault. The insurance representative might ask you who you believe is at fault but you have a right to not answer that question. Do not answer the question at all so they will not put that in your file.

5. Believe everything you hear about the situation.

Don’t believe everything someone tells you about the wreck. It is always a good idea to get a second opinion about what is going on in your situation.

You can get a second legal opinion or even ask a family member for advice on what you should do next. Keep in mind that you should never freely accept anything you are told about the accident.
