Benson, NC (August 19, 2020) – Around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, August 18, a woman was killed in a fatal truck accident in Benson.
Though few details have been released regarding the accident, an unidentified tractor-trailer driver allegedly crashed into the back of a white SUV that had been stopped in one southbound lane of I-95 for reasons that are not yet known.
The SUV sustained severe rear-end damages as a result of the accident. The woman driving the SUV, who has not yet been identified by police, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Her two children were injured and hospitalized.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was charged with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle at the scene of the collision.
The roadway was blocked in the southbound lanes of traffic until 4:30 a.m. when police successfully cleared the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues their investigation into the accident.
