Cary, NC (October 10, 2020) – A woman walking her dogs outside Cary near the intersection of Holly Springs Road and Penny Road died on Friday, October 9th when she was struck by the side-view mirror of a passing truck.
According to officers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, at about 8:00 a.m., 65-year-old Nancy Mallian was pronounced dead at the scene as was one of her dogs who was also hit by the errant vehicle. The second dog fled the scene.
Troopers charged 54-year-old Burt Ramos, a resident of Morrisville, with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and a felony hit and run. Ramos claimed he thought he had hit a deer and, after seeing a report about the accident on the news, called the Highway Patrol.
The accident is still under investigation by local law enforcement.
