Charlotte, NC (August 21, 2020) – Last evening, August 20, a car accident with injuries took place on a major Charlotte highway.
According to Huntersville Fire, the collision happened when two or more vehicles collided with one another in the southbound lanes of I-77. One of the vehicles immediately caught on fire following the collision. The vehicles involved were badly damaged as a result of the accident.
Fire crews and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident. It took firefighters some time to put out the fire and then paramedics transported multiple injured victims to the hospital. Unfortunately, their conditions are not yet known.
Due to the severity of the collision, all lanes of traffic in the southbound section of the highway were closed for several hours. This led to extensive delays until police were able to fully clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing at this time.
