Charlotte, NC (September 9, 2020) – Around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, September 6, a person was killed in a fatal accident in Charlotte.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the accident took place at 715 East Arrowood Road when two vehicles collided head-on. The vehicles were identified as a red 2001 Nissan Xterra and a silver 2008 Mercury Sable. Both of the vehicles had extensive front-end damage.
The driver of the Mercury, identified as a 42-year-old man, was traveling east on East Arrowood Road while the Nissan, operated by a 33-year-old man, was traveling west. The Nissan crossed over the line and collided head-on with the Mercury.
The driver of the Nissan fled the scene of the accident but was quickly located by police. He went to a family member’s home following the collision and got a ride to the hospital for minor injuries. He was showing signs of impairment and was charged with DWI.
On Monday, the driver of the Mercury was pronounced dead at the hospital due to his traumatic injuries. This led to further charges including felony hit-and-run, felony death by vehicle, and reckless driving.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time after the accident.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
