Charlotte, NC (September 11, 2020) – On Thursday afternoon, September 10, a train accident with injuries took place at a Charlotte intersection.
The accident took place on a railroad at the intersection of Sweden Road and South Boulevard when a train collided with a passenger car that was on the tracks. Police have not commented on the circumstances leading up to the crash.
The vehicle involved was severely damaged as a result of the accident. Due to the damages, fire crews had to extricate one person from the vehicle and the train sustained serious front-end damage.
One patient, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Atrium Health’s Carolina Medical Center Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
There were several passengers on the train at the time of the accident. They were transferred onto buses so that they could be taken to their destinations. The roadway was blocked for an extended period of time while police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
