Charlotte, NC (August 20, 2020) – Around 7:30 a.m. this morning, a woman was killed in a fatal truck accident on a roadway in Charlotte.
The accident, according to police, happened on Statesville Avenue in the area of I-85. The driver of a Honda was speeding and crossed a median on Statesville Avenue, causing his vehicle to collide with a Coca-Cola box truck.
The driver of the Honda was quickly identified as Philip Agyeman, who was taken to Atrium Health Center Main. His passenger, identified only as a female, was also hospitalized. The passenger tragically passed away while at the hospital.
The Honda was badly damaged to its right side and the box truck faced extensive front-end damages. Police closed down that portion of the roadway until 11:15 a.m. while they worked to clear the scene and debris left behind.
Agyeman was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
