Greensboro, NC (August 31, 2020) – Early yesterday morning, August 30, one man was killed in a fatal collision on a highway in Greensboro.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, the accident took place when a head-on collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near Gate City Boulevard.
Police confirmed that a Ford pickup truck was traveling along on the highway when it suddenly collided head-on with a Toyota minivan headed in the other direction for reasons that are not yet known. A 2019 Audi passenger vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided with the back of the van as well.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 59-year-old Oscar Gonzalez, was ejected from the pickup truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the minivan was identified as 42-year-old Elainia Koontz and there were three juveniles inside her vehicle. The driver and her young daughter were seriously injured in the collision and have already received surgeries due to the accident.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Audi fled the scene of the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
