Holly Springs, NC (October 11, 2020) – On Saturday night, October 10, a child was killed in a pedestrian crash in Holly Springs.
Witnesses confirmed that a 4-year-old boy was struck while playing outside with 10 or 15 other children on Carolina Town Lane in Holly Springs. A man in a pickup truck was driving through the neighborhood and forcefully struck the child.
The driver of the truck, identified as Carey Theron Moore, was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed. He told police that he was unable to stop in time and crashed into the child.
The child was initially taken to WakeMed by ambulance but passed away while at the hospital.
Witnesses said that the truck driver, who worked for a company but was off the clock at the time, was dropping off chairs in the area.
The roadway was closed in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
