Kernersville, NC – Update: Tractor-Trailer Accident on I-40 Leads to Serious Injuries

Kernersville, NC (December 23, 2020) – Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning, December 22, a tractor-trailer accident took place on a highway in Kernersville.

According to police, the accident took place in the eastbound lanes of I-40. Multiple tractor-trailers were allegedly lined up to go into a local weigh station that was full. Suddenly, a truck struck the back of another, which pushed it into a third and fourth in a chain-reaction crash. The accident led to extensive damages.

One of the truck drivers, identified as Christopher Cornelison, was trapped in his truck and had to be extricated by fire crews. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the crash.

The eastbound lanes of I-40 were blocked for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene.

Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
