Lumberton, NC (September 5, 2020) – On Thursday, September 3, a man was killed in a truck collision that took place on a highway in Lumberton.
According to police, the accident happened around 10:33 p.m. when 24-year-old Ajerris McRae was trying to merge in the southbound lanes of I-95. He was driving a Kia Forte when he started merging and a truck driven by 65-year-old Ronnie Fortner hit his Kia.
McRae’s vehicle was struck with such force that it ran off the road to the left where it struck guardrails and then another commercial truck being driven by 35-year-old Jandry Bello.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were present at the scene. McRae was pronounced dead at the scene. Bello was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes following the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
