Monroe, NC (December 24, 2020) – Two people were killed during a car accident on Lancaster Avenue in front of the Dollar General in the city of Monroe on Wednesday, December 23rd.
According to reports, at about 6:10 p.m., a Ford Explorer Sport Trac pulled into the path of a Honda Pilot as it was leaving the parking lot of the Dollar General.
The two backseat passengers in the Ford, Patricia Ashley and Sudie Carpenter, both residents of Lancaster, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The front passenger, who has since been identified as Ora Carpenter, was transported via ambulance to Atrium Main in critical condition.
Robert Ashley, the driver of the Ford, also sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Atrium Main.
Angela Deese, the Honda’s only occupant, was transported via ambulance to Atrium Union with non-life-threatening injuries.
Neither alcohol nor speed appears to be a factor.
This accident is under investigation by local law enforcement.
