Morganton, NC – Darnell Beatty Killed in Bicycle Crash on State Rd 1142

Morganton, NC (September 12, 2020) – Around 10:14 p.m. on Thursday night, September 10, a man was killed in a bicycle crash in Morganton.

The bicyclist, identified as 51-year-old Darnell Beatty, was headed southbound on State Road 1142 (Jamestown Road) when he was suddenly struck by a car headed in the opposite direction near William Parks Lane.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol, fire crews, and paramedics were present at the scene of the accident. Beatty was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Police confirmed that the driver, who remained at the scene but has not yet been identified, did not see the bicyclist until it was too late. The driver was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by police.
