Morganton, NC – Fatal Collision on Piney Rd

Morganton, NC (October 10, 2020) – One man died in a car accident north of Morganton on Monday, October 5th.

As reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 55-year-old William Murphy Jr., a resident of Boomer, approached a stop sign at the intersection of Piney Road at Pax Hill Road driving a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck at about 7:20 a.m. When Murphy attempted a lefthand turn onto Pax Hill Road, he cut off a GMC Sierra pick-up.

The Sierra, which had the right-of-way, collided with the driver’s side of the Tacoma.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Murphy dead at the scene. The driver of the Sierra was examined by paramedics at the crash site but refused any additional medical treatment.

A Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputy was directly behind Murphy when the collision took place.

Neither speeding nor driver impairment are believed to be factors in this accident.

Burke County EMS and Chesterfield Fire and Rescue also assisted with this accident.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. William Murphy, Jr., at this time.
