Morganton, NC – William Murphy Killed in Fatal Crash on Piney Rd

Morganton, NC (October 6, 2020) – Around 7:20 a.m. on Monday morning, October 5, a man was killed in a fatal crash at a Morganton intersection.

Police confirmed that 55-year-old William Murphy pulled up to the stop sign at the intersection of Piney Road and Pax Hill Road in his Toyota Tacoma. When he entered the intersection, his vehicle collided with a GMC Sierra being driven by another individual who has not yet been identified.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the GMC ran into the driver’s side door. Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while the other driver was checked out at the scene.

A police officer was behind Murphy when the accident took place.

The roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues.
