Mount Olive, NC (December 24, 2020) – A woman was killed on Monday, December 21st in the area of Mount Olive when her car was run off the road and flipped after another driver tried illegally passing her during a turn, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.
The accident took place at about 8:40 p.m. along NC-55 near the Kelly Springs Road intersection.
According to initial reports, a woman driving a Ford was making a lefthand turn onto Kelly Springs Road when a man in a Chevrolet pick-up truck attempted to illegally go around her and smashed into the driver’s side of her car.
The impact pushed both cars into a nearby field where the Ford rolled over.
First responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
Charges will most likely be brought against the driver of the Chevrolet once the investigation is complete.
Although the drivers of both vehicles have been identified, their names have not yet been released.
