Newport, NC (October 21, 2020) – Around 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, October 20, a two-car accident with injuries took place at an intersection in Newport.
According to the Newport Police Department, the accident occurred at the intersection of US-70 and East Chatham Street. The crash took place between two vehicles.
Police confirmed that a 17-year-old female driver was headed into the intersection when another vehicle being operated by a 52-year-old woman collided with her vehicle in the intersection.
The 17-year-old girl was immediately transported to Vidant Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The 52-year-old woman and her young grandchild were taken to Carteret Health Care for treatment of their injuries.
The intersection where the wreck occurred is known for having many accidents. In fact, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, approximately 30 accidents took place at that intersection between 2015 and 2019.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
