Rodanthe, NC (August 25, 2020) – On Monday, a fatal workplace accident involving a crane took place in Rodanthe.
According to police, the accident occurred when a worker was helping to build a new bridge in Rodanthe over the Pamlico Sound. He was working as a project contractor for Flatiron Construction at the time.
Emergency personnel was first called to the scene of the accident around 1 p.m. in the afternoon. They immediately discovered that a man had been pinned by a crane as he was working on the bridge. They were able to free him but he died due to the severity of his injuries.
Numerous emergency responders assisted at the scene and the roadway was closed down, all construction halted in the area for a period of time.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident.
