Salisbury, NC (November 20, 2020) – Around 6 a.m. on Friday morning, November 20, one person was killed in a fatal truck accident in Salisbury.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident took place on I-85 around the area of the Yadkin River Bridge. A gas truck was driving on the highway when it collided with the back of a tractor-trailer due to reasons that are not yet known. After the initial wreck, another tractor-trailer approached the area and collided with the tractor-trailer. A third tractor-trailer also became involved in the accident but fled the scene.
The driver of the gas truck, who has not yet been identified, was thrown out of his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the second tractor-trailer had to be hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to be okay.
Due to the severity of the collision, southbound lanes of I-85 were closed down in the area for an extended period of time and were not reopened until 10:30 a.m.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
