Shelby, NC (September 8, 2020) – Around 6 p.m. on Saturday night, September 5, a teen was killed in a rear-end accident in Shelby.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the teen was killed in a collision on Crowder Ridge Road. A man was riding along on a Wilson farm tractor and attempted to make a left turn onto Grigg Road from Crowder Ridge Road when the collision occurred.
A Dodge Avenger came up behind the tractor and attempted to pass by it when they ran into the back of the tractor. The Avenger was being driven by Caleb Christian Capps. There was a passenger in the Dodge identified as 16-year-old Nathaniel Barrett who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the tractor was not injured as a result of the accident. Charges are pending in the case.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is currently ongoing.
