Winterville, NC (October 4, 2020) – On Saturday night, October 3, a man was seriously injured in a Winterville pedestrian collision with a motor vehicle.
The accident took place around 9 p.m. on Memorial Drive at Thomas Langston Road. Police confirmed that 41-year-old Richard Dunn started to cross the roadway in the southbound lanes. A vehicle slammed on its brakes in an attempt to avoid him.
The vehicle was unable to stop and slammed into a second vehicle driven by 29-year-old Keishondia Artis. Artis struck the pedestrian as a result of the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene of the accident to assist the pedestrian. Dunn was taken to Vidant Memorial Center with serious injuries. His current condition is not yet known.
Artis remained at the scene of the crash to cooperate with investigators and, thus far, no charges have been filed.
Southbound lanes of Memorial Drive were closed down until approximately 11 p.m. as police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues at this time.
