Asheboro, NC (December 2, 2021) – At 2:45 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday, December 2, a car chase-related accident occurred in Asheboro.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened on US-64 around the area of the Zoo Connector. Deputies saw a suspect inside a stolen vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. In doing so, the suspect vehicle took off and a chase ensued. At some point, the driver made a U-turn and started driving in the wrong direction. Their vehicle collided with another vehicle head-on in the eastbound lanes. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The passenger inside the suspect vehicle was pinned and had to be extricated. The suspect, the passenger in the suspect vehicle, and the driver of the other vehicle were rushed to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
