Broadway, NC (May 31, 2021) – At least one person was killed and three others were injured after a head-on crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, May 28.
The two vehicles involved crashed head-on at Broadway Road and Woodland Trails Road, troopers with the Highway Patrol said. The wreck was reported around 3:30 p.m. and happened about two miles east of Broadway, per a statement from Trooper S. Thompson.
Initial reports state that James Diggs, 30, was traveling westbound in a Chevrolet Sonic and had two passengers in his vehicle. Just before reaching Woodland Trails Road, Diggs crossed the center line and struck a Toyota passenger vehicle. Thompson said that the driver and passengers of that car were not identified, though they sustained minor injuries.
A woman, identified as 24-year-old Jasmine Druckemiller, was a passenger in Diggs’ car. She was transported to Central Carolina Hospital via ambulance but was pronounced dead the same day. A second passenger, Allen Aldridge of Sanford, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Diggs suffered a broken hand from the crash.
The events leading up to the collision are unknown, but Thompson said there was no indication of impairment, speed, or distracted driving. However, Thompson said charges are pending.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Jasmine Druckemiller. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
