Burgaw, NC – Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident in SB Lanes of US-117

Burgaw, NC (November 23, 2021) – At 10 p.m. on the night of Saturday, November 20, a hit-and-run bicycle accident occurred in Burgaw.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the southbound lanes of US-117 around the area of Pike Creek Road. An individual was traveling south on a bicycle in the area when they were suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was rushed to the ICU at a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Police confirmed that a mirror was ripped from the suspect’s hit-and-run vehicle. The vehicle is allegedly a white Kia Soul that was last seen driving south toward the Rocky Point area.

The roadway was blocked near the intersection for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
