Cary, NC (July 10, 2021) – On Saturday morning, July 10, an officer was injured in a car accident that took place after a car chase in Cary.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident took place in the westbound lanes of I-40 around the area of Harrison Avenue. A trooper initially attempted to stop a Hyundai that was going 85, about 20 mph over the speed limit. Police also confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.
The Hyundai would not stop for police, which caused a trooper to chase after the driver. The driver of the Hyundai slammed into a patrol vehicle and caused it to travel off the side of the road, where the vehicle struck a tree. The Hyundai also crashed and was badly damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. Two juveniles inside the Hyundai were injured in the accident. The involved trooper was also taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
