Cary, NC – Two Killed in Motorcycle Crash at SW Maynard Rd & Old Apex Rd

Cary, NC (May 9, 2021) – Authorities released further details following a Tuesday afternoon motorcycle crash that occurred near an intersection in Cary, killing one man and seriously injuring another victim.

According to troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened near SW Maynard Road and Old Apex Road. A motorcycle ridden by a man and woman collided with a car. The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police confirmed on Thursday that the woman has since died. The driver of the car, identified as 62-year-old Mark Abbott, was not hospitalized.

Abbott was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, felony death by vehicle, and felony causing serious injury by vehicle. The names of the motorcyclists have not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
