Dunn, NC (December 8, 2021) – On Saturday, December 4, a man was killed in a fatal workplace accident at a warehouse in Dunn.
According to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at the local Food Lion distribution center. Police confirmed that 22-year-old Dereck Carrero was walking down an aisle at the center on Arrowhead Road when he was suddenly struck by a forklift being operated by a second employee.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Carrero was rushed to WakeMed with a severe head injury but tragically passed away on Monday night.
Due to the severity of the accident, a large portion of the distribution center was blocked off until police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
