Dunn, NC (January 26, 2021) – On Monday, January 25, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident on a roadway in Dunn.
According to authorities, the accident happened on Jonesboro Road. Police confirmed that an 80-year-old woman identified as Fleta Wood was struck by a Jeep Cherokee when she was crossing the road from her mailbox. It is believed that the roadway was dark and it was raining at the time, which could have caused the driver to not see Wood.
The driver, identified as 73-year-old Arnold Barrier, was not injured and stopped at the scene. He has since been cooperating with the police.
Wood was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to extensive injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
