Durham, NC (August 3, 2021) – On Tuesday morning, August 3, a fatal accident took place on a major roadway in Durham that led to the death of one person.
Officers with the Durham Police Department say that a 26-year-old man was thrown from a ride-share vehicle and died after it was rear-ended along Highway 147 in Durham early Tuesday morning. North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers added that the deadly crash happened around 1:30 a.m. near Ellis Road on the Durham Freeway.

The passenger in the Toyota, identified as 26-year-old Daniel Joseph Watt, died after he was ejected from the vehicle.
The Lyft driver, a 26-year-old from Raleigh, was transported to the hospital in serious condition, troopers said. The Mercedes driver was treated at the scene.
Troopers expect the driver of Mercedes to face charges.
