Durham, NC (August 4, 2021) – On Wednesday morning, August 4, a serious house fire happened in Durham that injured at least two victims.
One man and one dog were rescued from a major duplex fire in Durham, fire officials said. Durham Fire Department crews responded to the incident, which occurred in the 100 block of Colfax Street at 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a one-story duplex with flames bursting from the front left corner of the house. Nearly 40 firefighters responded to the call and officials said that other teams searched the home. A man and a dog were found inside the home and rescued by firefighters, according to fire officials.
The man was transported to Duke Hospital via ambulance with injuries but EMS said he was in overall good condition. The dog was also taken to an animal hospital, also in good condition.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the duplex suffered major damage throughout.
The Red Cross was called in to assist. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and further details have not been released.
