Durham, NC (November 19, 2021) – Around 6:30 p.m. on the evening of Friday, November 19, a truck crash occurred on a roadway in Durham.
The accident, which involved a tractor-trailer, was reported by Durham fire officials at Mangum Street, closing the area for most of Friday night near the intersection with Corporation Street and Cleveland Street.
The wreck happened when the driver of a big rig was turning and hit a utility pole, according to Durham Fire Division Chief Jeff Roberts. It’s unclear if any other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The utility pole appeared to be snapped in half and hanging only by wires. Duke Energy officials reported that the wreck would cause the intersection to be closed all night.
EMS units were also on the scene and appeared to transport at least one person to the hospital, though their current condition is unknown.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
