Durham, NC – Two Injured in Apartment Fire at 1700 E Cornwallis Rd in Durham Co

Durham, NC (July 4, 2021) – Authorities have released further details after an apartment fire occurred in Durham on Monday evening, June 28, in the Durham area.

Officers said that one person was hurt after jumping from the Durham apartment fire. Durham fire rescue units said that their department responded to the incident, which occurred at the 1700 block of East Cornwallis Road just before 8:00 p.m. Two residents escaped the blaze by climbing onto a roof over their door and jumping to the ground. One occupant sustained a leg injury as a result of their fall and was transported to an area medical center via ambulance. The other victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly, though they said that there was extensive smoke and fire damage to the first and second floors of the building. No other residents sustained serious injuries, and the two injured residents were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
