Fayetteville, NC (October 13, 2021) – On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 13, a pedestrian accident occurred in Fayetteville that injured an officer.
According to Fayetteville Police, the accident happened on Beuer Street. Police confirmed that 24-year-old Chante Oates was from Florida and visiting her grandmother in the area. She became involved in a fight with her grandmother. Oates got in her vehicle and struck her grandmother and her house while intoxicated. Oates then returned to the roadway and struck a police officer, dragging her approximately 50 feet.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help. The officer was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries to her leg. The grandmother suffered from minor injuries and was also hospitalized.
Oates was arrested on a variety of charges. These include assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, felony hit-and-run, resisting arrest, driving while impaired, and more.
The roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time as police cleared the scene.
