Kill Devil Hills, NC (July 10, 2021) – At 10:30 p.m. on the night of Thursday, July 8, a fatal pedestrian crash occurred at an intersection in Kill Devil Hills.
According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of NC-158 and Sportsman Drive. Police confirmed that 36-year-old Corey Feickert was walking in the area when he was suddenly struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 55-year-old Donald McClanning Jr.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately called to the scene. Feickert was rushed to the hospital by paramedics but he was pronounced dead while there.
Police quickly confirmed that McClanning was driving intoxicated at the time. He has since been arrested for driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
