Kings Mountain, NC – Joy Johnson Killed in Fatal Crash on NC-161

Kings Mountain, NC (January 11, 2021) – On Saturday afternoon, January 9, a woman was killed in a fatal crash in Kings Mountain.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident took place on NC-161 in the area of Velvet Drive at 3:40 p.m. Police stated that 49-year-old Joy Johnson was traveling north in her Buick when her vehicle collided head-on with a Chevrolet Malibu for reasons that are not fully known.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to assist those in need. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Multiple individuals inside the Malibu were seriously injured and taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
