Laurinburg, NC – Teens Injured in School Bus Accident on NC-15

Laurinburg, NC (November 17, 2021) – On Tuesday, November 16, a school bus accident occurred on a major roadway in Laurinburg.

According to officials, the accident happened on NC-15 around the area of the 401 Bypass. A passenger vehicle was traveling in the area after leaving the Scotland County High School. A school bus suddenly came to a stop at a railroad crossing. The passenger vehicle did not stop in time, causing it to slam into the back of the bus.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. Three people inside the passenger vehicle, identified as a 14-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 25-year-old, were all injured in the crash. All staff and two students on the bus, identified as an 8-year-old and a 4-year-old, were taken to local hospitals as well but are expected to be okay.

Police confirmed that the 25-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle was not paying attention and failed to reduce their speed to avoid the collision.

The roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
