Maxton, NC – Shelly Romero Killed in Pedestrian Accident on NC-71

Maxton, NC (December 15, 2021) – On Wednesday morning, December 15, a woman was killed in a pedestrian accident in Maxton.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened on NC-71. A container truck was traveling in the area in the southbound lanes when it collided with a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street at the time. The driver of the truck allegedly remained at the scene following the crash.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, identified as Shelly Romero, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.

Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene so traffic could resume as normal.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
