Mebane, NC (November 30, 2021) – At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, November 30, a man was killed in a fatal accident in Mebane.
According to State Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-40 around the area of Buckhorn Road. Police confirmed that 72-year-old Harry Huffman was driving his FedEx vehicle in the area when a driver in a passenger vehicle, 28-year-old Dashaun Richardson, attempted to make a lane change. His vehicle crashed into the side of a vehicle being driven by 47-year-old Coretta Allen. Allen’s vehicle struck the side of the FedEx vehicle as a result.
Due to the force of the collision, the FedEx vehicle ran off the side of the road where it overturned. This led to extensive damages to the vehicles involved. It is believed that the vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were called to the scene to help. Huffman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Allen received minor injuries but was not hospitalized.
Two lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for approximately six hours as police worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
