Mt. Pleasant, NC (October 21, 2021) – At 3:48 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday, October 21, a child was killed in a pedestrian accident in Mt. Pleasant.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 2500 Mount Pleasant Road. A 10-year-old child allegedly got off of their school bus and was standing in the driveway. The child attempted to cross the road, which is when they were struck by a Honda passenger vehicle that may not have seen the child in enough time.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The child was rushed to Atrium Health Northeast with severe injuries but he was pronounced dead while there.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time as police worked to clear the scene. It is not known if the driver who struck the child will receive charges.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
