New Bern, NC (June 10, 2021) – At 1:35 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday, June 10, a firefighter was killed in a fatal crash in New Bern.
According to officials, the accident took place at 2200 Brices Creek Road. A firefighter was responding to another crash on US-70 when their vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The circumstances of the accident are not entirely known but the Craven County Fire Department confirmed that the damages were extensive.
Several local responders were dispatched to the scene to help. The firefighter, who has not yet been identified, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area until police were able to clear the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues its investigation.
