Newport, NC (June 13, 2021) – Around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 12, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash in Newport.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials, the accident took place in the eastbound lanes of US-70. A Dodge truck was traveling in the area when it struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian, who has been identified only as a 63-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic until police were able to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
