Newport, NC (October 5, 2021) – On Tuesday morning, October 5, a car accident with injuries occurred on an unidentified roadway in Newport.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened in Carteret County. A vehicle initially pulled off onto the side of the road so that they could call a tow truck for an abandoned vehicle. Their car was suddenly struck by a white Dodge Challenger that was traveling in the area. The Challenger continued driving but stopped after 400 yards when a tire came off their vehicle.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver in the vehicle that remained at the scene was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Their condition is not known at this time.
The driver who fled the scene has not been identified by police.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time as police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
