Raleigh, NC (December 3, 2021) – Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday morning, December 3, a teen was killed in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Raleigh.
According to Raleigh Police, the accident happened at US-401. A 17-year-old girl identified as Ashlee Llagostera was struck by a pickup truck while she was walking in the area. The driver of the vehicle, identified later as 27-year-old Wendel Ramirez-Silva, fled the scene of the crash without stopping. The driver then continued onward where he was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Police confirmed that Llagostera was traumatically injured and found off the side of the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to these injuries.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for several hours. Police confirmed that the vehicle that struck her was badly damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
Ramirez-Silva has since been arrested and charged for the accident. He is now facing charges of aggravated felony death by vehicle, hit-and-run, and driving without a license.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
