Raleigh, NC (August 15, 2021) – At 12:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, August 15, a DUI accident with injuries occurred in Raleigh.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-40 around the area of Aviation Parkway. A Durham man was driving a Honda Civic headed west in the wrong lane of traffic. A church van was also traveling in the area and swerved to the side to avoid an accident but was unable to do so. The two forcefully collided, leading to extensive damages.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help. The two men inside the church van sustained injuries but are expected to be okay. The two were headed to Clayton when the accident happened.
The driver of the Honda was identified as 37-year-old Derrick Clyburn. He was charged with reckless driving, driving in the wrong direction, and DWI. He was also treated at the scene for injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
