Raleigh, NC (July 16, 2021) – At 3 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, July 16, a woman was killed in a pedestrian accident at a hospital in Raleigh.
According to Raleigh Police officials, the accident happened in the parking deck of the Duke Raleigh Hospital on Wake Forest Road. A woman, identified as Mary Albrecht, was walking in the area when she suddenly tripped over a speed bump. She fell onto her back when she was struck by a vehicle that was trying to make it to another level of the parking garage. The driver claimed that they did not see the pedestrian.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Albrecht was severely injured after being dragged approximately 100 feet by the vehicle. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was injured in the accident.
The area was blocked for an extended period of time. Police confirmed that the driver remained at the scene
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
