Raleigh, NC (June 17, 2021) – At 4:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, June 17, a fatal accident occurred on a major highway in Raleigh.
According to Raleigh Police, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-440 around the area of Poole Road and I-87. Two vehicles collided in the area due to unknown reasons, which led to catastrophic damages in both vehicles. It is believed that one of the vehicles may have been traveling in the wrong direction at the time of the crash.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were present at the scene. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but the other driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are not yet known.
Tow trucks had to remove the mangled vehicles from the roadway. The area was blocked for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
