Raleigh, NC (June 26, 2021) – A tractor-trailer and a passenger car collided in the Raleigh area on Wednesday evening, June 23, resulting in serious injuries and major traffic backups.
Officers with the Raleigh Police Department say that the collision happened near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Harrod Street. The roof of the passenger car had to be removed so that Raleigh EMS and first responders could get to the driver. Fire rescue units had to extricate the driver from their vehicle. The car’s driver was transported to an area medical center via ambulance in serious condition.
The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to police. It’s unclear if the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained injuries. Atlantic Avenue was blocked from Harrod Street to New Hope Church Road as officers investigated the crash and attempted to piece together the events causing the wreck.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
