Raleigh, NC (July 23, 2021) – At 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning, July 23, a man was killed in a fatal car crash in Raleigh.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on I-40 around the area of Rock Quarry Road. A driver identified as 28-year-old William Gillespie was traveling on the highway in his 2002 Toyota. He suddenly lost control due to reasons that are not yet known, smashing into the median.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. There were other passengers in the vehicle identified as four children, a 29-year-old man, and 63-year-old Sherman Cannady. Cannady was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of severe trauma. The other victims sustained injuries but are expected to be okay.
The driver received charges of death by vehicle, reckless driving, driving with a revoked license, and more.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
