Rocky Mount, NC (August 31, 2021) – On Monday, August 30, a police officer was injured in a pedestrian crash in Rocky Mount.
According to police, the accident happened at 900 Stokes Street. Police confirmed that 32-year-old Kevin Cooper fled a police stop in the area when he suddenly struck a police officer who was standing in the area. He continued going and did not stop at the scene but was later arrested by police.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The unidentified police officer was injured in the accident. Their condition is not known at this time.
Cooper was arrested on charges of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer, and failing to stop at a red light. He is being held at the Nash County Detention Center.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
