Sanford, NC (November 29, 2021) – At 2:15 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, November 28, a woman was killed in a pedestrian crash in Sanford.
According to Sanford Police, the accident happened on Jefferson Davis Highway around the area of the Highway 421 bypass. A woman was walking in the northbound lanes of traffic when she was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle that was unable to stop in time for her. The driver stopped and remained at the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, identified as 27-year-old Maybelline Ann Arzate, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.
The driver was not hurt in the accident. They have not yet been charged for their role in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the northbound lanes for a period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
